I can’t remember when I first met Ammon Embry-Pelrine, but I certainly remember why we met. My back had suddenly seized up, leaving me barely capable of even attending our massage therapy session.

Ammon fixed my body – I can still remember the snap, crackles, and pops from that session – just like he has every other time I’ve gone to see him over the years. In February, he even made a house call to release the tension surrounding my injured quadriceps.

“It’s like all the attachment points decided to have a party in your quad,” he said cheerfully while working his magic, loosening knots, and stretching out tendons.

While lying on his table over the years, Ammon and I have had long conversations about music, philosophy, art, and most of all, movement mechanics. Those sessions have helped make me a more mindful runner, and in many ways, a more empathetic person. Especially to my own body.

We thought it might be fun to record our most recent session in Ammon’s new studio in Arlington Center where he is establishing his own practice. For local runners, athletes, or anyone struggling with pain and soreness, I highly recommend booking an appointment with him in the near future. And for everyone else, try to find an Ammon in your area.
