I can't tell you the amount of rage, disappointment and spite that filled me when I read that someone had the absolute audacity to say something like this to you, no matter what day it is. Training, grit, process, regiment, commitment...that's what it is. No matter if it's in the mountains of Peru or on a treadmill in suburban Boston, all of those things still hold the same weight. It's all mental preparation and for someone to say this to you says far more about them than anything else. Honestly, what a d*ck. You're an absolute beast and we all know it!
Funny thing about this. I trained for my first marathon on a treadmill. The ENTIRE THING. Longest run being 22 miles on a treadmill with varying increments of incline and decline. It was the commitment that prepared me more than anything. And at that same race, we wore white t-shirts expecting it to be mid-60s and cloudy. It ended up being mid-40s and dumping rain the entire race. Also, my marathon PR. ::shrug:: Guess the treadmill was cringe?
The idea that anybody would behave that way is just unbelievable. This idea that they're going to criticize and complain rather than be supportive around somebody trying to accomplish this kind of difficult task? It's unbelievable and yet I'm not at all surprised there are people like this in the world.
It's one of my reasons I dumped my Twitter account and deactivated my Facebook account. I'd rather figure out other ways to find the right kinds of community. I have opened a bluesky account and am finding the community better, but if things go south, I won't hesitate to cut that off now.
It's kinda like what I mentioned to Paul previously about reading. Life is too short to put up with something I don't enjoy. I want to be in a space where I'm with people who are supportive of each other. It may not be a huge community here at RP, but I've loved it!
Astounding, but as you said, not surprising. There's some real downers out there.
And I agree. I dumped my twitter account and haven't logged into facebook since 2018 or so. I don't need it. I stick with my private instagram and threads these days. That being said, I'm with you. We may not be big, but we're strong here in RP. And I appreciate you all immensely.
I've moved over to Bluesky. It's been a nice little community, and nice supporting something that isn't owned by one of the billionaires. We'll see if it lasts, but it's been fun so far.
My husband jumped onto bluesky too. He’s waiting for all of the NBA guys he follows to move over as well. It’s a lot for me so I stick with the couple things I’ve got.

It was very odd and I'm pretty sure they didn't mean it to be so rude, but it was like, hey eff you man. Very strange.
