When the Vermont 100 was canceled, the race organizers gave us two options. We could roll our entry over to 2024, or we could run the Vermont 50 in September.
This was an interesting decision because on the one hand, I felt like I couldn’t let this season go without a competitive release. At the same time, one of the things I was most looking forward to following the 100K was not running for a while.
It would be nice, for instance, to stash those enormous tubs of hydration mix out of mind and out of sight. (Lena nods her head in agreement.) Well, guess what? Looks like it’s still Hammer time because after much contemplation and family discussion, I chose the Vt. 50 as my race option.
That means 10 more weeks of training (sorry, Lena.) It also means approaching the next few months with renewed purpose and fresh goals. Simply following the same old path feels like a one-way ticket to Burnout City. Here are some honest questions I asked myself before committing to the race. They’re ones you should consider asking yourself before your next event.
