How to run in the cold
With the right layers, you can be comfortable in almost any temperature
We finally got around to creating an Instagram account for Running, Probably. The IG will be open to everyone, whether you’re a subscriber or not. It would be super cool if you also subscribed to this newsletter, and even cooler if you upgraded to a paid subscription.
Speaking of cool!
Have you ever gone to bed planning to run in the morning only to discover upon waking up that the temperature dropped 20 degrees while you were all warm and toasty under the covers? There are only two options when faced with this situation. You either:
A) Go back to bed and live with regret.
B) Get out the door and get on with it.
For those of us who fall into the latter category, running in cold weather offers an excellent opportunity to test our mettle, as well as our fancy running gear. Besides, think how good we’ll feel after our run when we’re enjoying a hot beverage and a scone from our favorite bakery. (Hearty runners get scones. Those are the rules)
If you’re a runner who shrinks at the thought of frigid temperatures, take heart. With a few subtle wardrobe adjustments, you too can unlock the secrets of cold weather running.
Since we’re all friends here, I’ll go ahead and let you in on it. The key to running in the cold is simply not minding that it’s cold. That’s where all the fancy gear comes into play. By layering thoughtfully, you can run comfortably in almost any temperature.
Here’s how to greet freezing temperatures with a shrug instead of a grimace.
