We all have visions of a perfect running day. Give us pleasant temperatures with an overcast sky along an engaging route and the miles will tick by without worry or care.
My run on Monday was not at all like that. Instead, it was 28 degrees with 20-30 MPH gusts that made it feel like running into a (very cold) brick wall. There was also a half foot of snow on the ground, leaving a 1.5 mile out-and-back asphalt path as the only runnable terrain in town.
Oh well, marathons don’t train for themselves. Regardless of the conditions, the run called for 14 miles with an aerobic progression from steady state down to race pace. The progression, by the way, wasn't the goal. The goal was not making excuses.
