There are lots of reasons to run fast – vanity, ego, performance goals, etc. – but the biggest motivation to run fast is that it’s fun. There are very few moments in our oh-so-serious grownup lives when we can cut loose like we did when we were kids. Running fast is one of them.

Running fast is also fun because it activates muscles and fibers that make us stronger, while engaging our brains in a battle between resilience and surrender. To put it bluntly: You will go through some shit when you run fast. There will be moments of agony and ecstasy, all while riding an emotional roller coaster between self-doubt and extreme confidence.

That may not sound like a barrel of laughs, but when executed correctly with proper attention to detail, what you eventually discover is that running fast makes all the other running you do all seem easier. And that, my friends, is a whole lot of fun.
