On Sunday, I did something I haven’t done in a long time: I took a day off from running. Not merely a rest or recovery day, this was a complete and total day off from anything associated with running. There was no stretching, no strength training, no yoga, no pilates, not even a brisk walk to get the blood flowing.
There was literally nothing on my agenda that could in any way help, boost, or elevate my fitness. Except for not doing anything. Which I did. Or didn’t do, as the case may be.
What made this day of not doing even more notable is that I actually did have a run on my schedule. Short of injury, illness, or complicating life factors, I honestly can’t remember the last time I skipped a scheduled run. Even then, I would have certainly done something to compensate for doing nothing.
Not this time. I’m fairly confident not doing anything on Sunday was the right call. In fact, doing nothing may wind up being the best decision I make throughout this entire training cycle. Become a paid subscriber to find out why. (How’s that for a tease?)
