On the last day of my 40s, I went out for a challenging long run in a steambath. The running part of the equation was fine: 18 miles total with 6 miles of tempo segments. Tough, but perfectly manageable for this point in 50K training. It was the tropical humidity that crushed my soul, ultimately cutting nearly a third of the miles and half the workout from the final tally. 

As temperatures rise and heat waves become permanent features of summer running, here are some tips and tactics for dealing with what meteorologists like to call, super-gross weather.
