This week’s post is a case study in mental toughness illustrated by three very different runs on consecutive days: one in the rain, one under performance pressure, and another when nothing was going right.
As runners, we all experience multiple forms of mental toughness every time we head out the door. Simply getting out there and getting it done, as in our last example, is indicative of a certain amount of resilience.
But what of the weather-resistant runner or the hell-bent for glory athlete? The truly tough runner mixes and matches character traits depending on the situation. They not only know when to go to the well, they know how to find ways to enjoy themselves, even when there isn’t a whole lot of joy to be found.
