With roughly 10 weeks remaining before the Vermont 100K, it’s time to get serious about training. Perhaps super serious would be a better way to put it, or maybe, seriously serious? It’s Go Time either way, and I have to say, I’m pretty stoked.

Ever since Avery and I started working together in early 2021, we’ve been building to this moment. Back then, I completely dismissed the notion of running 100 kilometers because I didn’t think I was ready. Things change.

While I’m going into this training cycle with a clear heart, sound body, and positive intentions, I’m well aware trouble will be lurking on the horizon. Muscles will hurt, brains will be fried, and relationships will be tested over the next few months.

To truly embrace a challenge like training for an endurance event, you must be aware that hardships will be an inevitable part of the journey. At some point, I guarantee that my family will be frustrated by my training schedule, and I will become frustrated with their frustration.

Managing these potential conflicts, as well as your physical and emotional needs, is as important as nailing your tempo runs and meeting your mileage goals. Before training kicks into high gear, make time to have honest conversations with family members, and with yourself.
