Longtime RP subscriber Tracey made an excellent point in the comments last week about how running is a priority for her, rather than just another part of her routine. For Tracey, and I suspect a lot of us, running isn’t just something we do. It’s a significant part of who we are.

On the surface, making running a priority sounds wonderful. One of the payoffs for developing consistent running habits is cultivating a more intimate – and hopefully long-lasting – relationship with the sport.

Besides, if you’re making a list of things you could prioritize in your life, running seems like a pretty good option. Who wouldn’t want a regular dose of physical fitness with a side of mental well-being?

Yet, doubling down on your running commitment comes with its own set of tradeoffs. Whether it’s time management, lifestyle habits, or navigating relationships, when you make running a priority, things are gonna change.
