It’s a busy world and there’s never enough time to do all the things we need to do, let alone all the things we want to do. If there’s one thing I go out of my way to do, it’s yoga. By doing yoga, what I mean is I roll out a mat in the living room and practice alone with a 20-30 minute video.

If I had infinite time and resources, I’d find a regular class where I could study with a group of like-minded souls under the watchful eye of a trusted teacher. Since both time and resources are finite, you won’t find a better deal anywhere than living room yoga.

Besides, you don’t need a fancy studio to learn about yourself through yoga. All that stuff about connecting to your breath only sounds like hippie blather until you find yourself forging a connection between your mind and body that feels both holistic and empowering.

Is yoga good for runners? Sure. In the same way that yoga can be good for anyone. Can yoga mess you up? Absolutely. I remain convinced that a right hip injury several years ago was directly related to overextending my flexors past their extension points during a yoga practice.

There’s a key word missing here: mindful. So, let’s rephrase: Can a mindful yoga practice be a complementary component of a runner’s life? Namaste.

You can do yoga anywhere, even a standup paddle board
