How timely... This morning during my drills I thought, man. Somehow my running feels like it's getting worse, not better. What is the point? I have a 5K Sunday that I'd like to skip because it's HOT and it's not even chip timed. But I told myself this year I'd do one 5K a month, and that's literally the only thing getting my shoes on my feet right now. I'm hoping this fitness wall crumbles and I find a way through because it super sucks.

The motivation for me usually starts to pick up once I change into running gear. It's not always optimal motivation, but I feel more ready to go knowing I've set things in motion and can accomplish something. I'm fascinated to see how that develops over the next six months leading up to the marathon. This will be the most intense training period really since I did Tae Kwon Do extensively as a kid. I'm really curious to see how things go from a motivation perspective, particularly in July and August when it's getting hotter and more humid. I think I can push through that, but it will be a learning experience.

The timing of this is impeccable. This week has been major for me. My husband and I both got covid a couple weeks ago after two stints of travel and the Boston Marathon. Two and a half years of playing this game of human Donkey Kong and it finally got us. It's hit me a lot harder than him, so I'm still dragging along. I also quit my job, a place I've worked for 18 years, for a new one that I start this Monday. From trying to get back on track with my health to feeling completely unmotivated to do anything because of burnout, it's all I can do to not just quit IT ALL. But right now is the exact time that I need to get my shoes on and get out the door. Those miles are the meditative inspiration for everything I do. I just hope that this recovery doesn't take much longer.
