Well, look at that. Just when we were saying our final goodbye to summer, the air turned crisp and the leaves began turning vibrant colors. The apples are ready to be picked, the cider donuts are warm, and it’s just about time to bust out that favorite autumn sweater. For runners, there’s no better season to get our miles.
Given a choice between running in spring, summer, or fall – we’re leaving winter out of this – I’ll take autumn’s brisk morning chill every time over spring allergies and summer heat. Everything just feels good this time of year, even the predawn gloom hints at adventures waiting to be had.
What I’ve come to appreciate even more about the fall is that it means it’s time for the offseason. That’s when I take my running into the workshop and tweak things that need tweaking while fine tuning the stuff that’s working.
